Protect Children From Sexual Abuse – The Child Athlete Bill of Rights

protect children from sexual abuse

Parents, athletes, coaches, attorneys, and a number of organizations have been urging the US Congress to protect children from sexual abuse by passing a bill titled “The Child Athlete Bill of Rights” for years. The bill would protect children from abuse and exploitation in sports by guaranteeing them fair play, positive coaching and training environments, safety from injuries, and equitable treatment in competition.

The bill proposition was created in response to reports of child athletes being abused by coaches and other adults involved in their sport. The bill would center on these four “SAFE” rules for the kid athletes:

SAY “NO”: You have the right to say “no” when confronted with situations you don’t want to be in.

ACT: When something doesn’t seem right, you have the right to take action by speaking up.

FEEL: It is okay to feel what you feel, and it is also okay to be supported when you do so.

EDUCATE: You have the right to know what constitutes abuse and how to report it.

Other points that were touched on include:

Point 1: The child athlete has a right to a fair and equal opportunity to participate in sports.

Point 2: The child athlete has a right to be safe while participating in sports.

Point 3: The child athlete has a right to be respected by coaches, parents, and peers.

Point 4: The child athlete has a right to develop physically, emotionally, and mentally.

Point 5: The child athlete has the right to have fun and enjoy sports.

Overall, the child athlete is a valuable member of our society, and should not be molested or taken advantage of! It sought to ensure that the child athlete is treated fairly and with respect so that they can reach their full potential.

Has the Child Athlete Bill of Rights Been Passed?

The Child Athlete Bill of Rights has not been passed. However, there is a similar bill that has been passed in order to protect child athletes from abuse. This bill is the SafeSport Act, also known as the Protecting Young Athletes from Sexual Abuse Act. This bill is similar to the Child Athlete Bill of Rights as it would provide child athletes with specific rights regarding abuse and mistreatment. The bill includes provisions for mandatory reporting, protection from retaliation, and access to information about the coach’s history of misconduct. It also calls for increased oversight of youth sports programs by athletic commissions.

What Are Parents With Athlete Kids Advised To Do To Protect Children From Sexual Abuse?
