How Common is Sexual Abuse By School Officials?
Educators, school staff, and officials play a prominent role in the lives of many children across the United States. When you consider that once a child is approximately five years old if they go to public or private school, they will be in a school system for most of the year for more than a decade.
While many educators and school administrators are dedicated to their jobs and provide a great service for children, there are instances where these professionals can cross the line and engage in abuse with their students. According to the statistics, as high as 10% of students will be sexually abused by a school employee by the time they graduate high school. Sexual abuse is a broad term that encompasses many different types of inappropriate misconduct, including sexual comments and jokes, exposure to inappropriate images or genitals, and physical kissing, touching, fondling, or intercourse.
